Job Title: Writer/Editor

Job Type: Full Time

Department: Academic Publications

Responsibilities:
Substantive Editing: Identify and solve problems of overall clarity or accuracy; reorganize paragraphs, sections, or chapters to improve the order in which the text is presented; write or rewrite segments of text to improve readability and flow of information; coordinate with the design and art production staff for the design, layout, and illustration of copy; revise any or all aspects of the text to improve its presentation.

QC: Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and word usage; check for or impose a consistent style and format; proofread for errors in content: copy, art, and design.

Research: Query and consult with others about issues of concern; crosscheck references, art, figures, tables, equations, and other features; specify illustration and photography; research permissions for copyrighted materials.

Admin: Maintain appropriate project files and folders, contribute to ongoing development of departmental procedures and house style, participate in meetings related to schedules and workflow as well as weekly project meetings, develop and maintain client relationships with course directors.

Requirements: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; content, proofreading, and production editorial skills; ability to understand and improve technical material.

Education/Training: Bachelor's degree preferably in English, Writing, Communications, or Journalism and two years editing experience in an educational book production environment preferred, CMS.

Skills Needed: Word, Excel, basic knowledge of production processes, good organizational and time-management skills.
