Job Title: Lab Specialist – Advanced Lighting

Job Type: Full Time

Department: Education - Film

Responsibilities: Full time Lab Specialist for Lighting Classes in the Film Bachelor of Science Degree Program. These courses examine all aspects of lighting and grip/electric in Video and Film Production. In these courses, students become familiar with all of the gear, techniques and positions involved in set and location lighting though participation in labs that give them hands-on experience.

Duties include providing instruction to students and assisting students with queries and requests for additional information. Follow lesson plans and curriculum as outlined by Course Director. Support the Course Director and help further their vision. Support and cultivate the student body. Ensure that the labs run smoothly. Ensure high student retention in lab. Participate in monthly departmental meetings

Requirements: Minimum of 3 years professional industry experience working in production, with cameras; grip and electric.
The successful candidate must ensure excellence of personal service to students, maintain office hours for consultation, and communicate with students to settle inquiries relating to the course.
Confident, personable, caring individual with strong communication skills, good time-management abilities, and leadership qualities.

Education/Training: Bachelor's degree not required, but preferred.

Skills Needed: The candidate must be proficient in technical teaching of film/video lighting to both the beginner and the novice. Candidates must also demonstrate effective communication and presentation skills. Must be safety minded and understand all aspects of electricity and power distribution. Strong camera skills are a plus. Job is often physical in nature. Must be capable of heavy lifting (45lbs) and able to climb ladders and stairs. Rigging experience not mandatory, but considered a plus.
